Education
I attended elementary school at Hayes Lewis and high school at Leslie County High.  After high school I went to Hazard Community college for 2 years to take basic classes.  When I finished HCC I moved to Morehead and attended Morehead State University with a degree in Moderate to Severe Disabilities k-12 and Elementary Education k-4.  I graduated college in December of 1999 and received my first teaching job at Burnside Elementary in January 2000.  I taught there for 1 semester before going to work for the Laurel County School District.  I taught at South Laurel High School for 1 year.  I had a wonderful experience there but wanted to work closer to home.  So in August of 2001 I was hired at Hyden Elementary (now Mountain View Elementary).  I went back to school and obtained a degree in teaching students with Learning and Behavioral Disabilities.  I have been here ever since.  In 2009 I completed my masters degree in Special Education and I am currently nearing completion of my Rank 1.  I really feel blessed to be here and I hope I can make a positive impact on my students.

Experience
I currently have 11 years teaching experience.

Bio
My name is Monica Parker.  I have lived in Leslie County my entire life.  I have been married to my husband Mike Parker for over 10 years now.  We have one child, Zach.  He is eight years old and attends Mountain View Elementary.  I have been teaching for 11 years now.  For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a teacher.  I can remember as a child pretending the ironing board was my desk while I taught my dolls and stuffed animals.  Now I am living my dream!  I feel very thankful and blessed to be where I am today.
